Thruxton
(UK): Oman racing
Team driver Ahmad Said Al Harthy took part in race
11 of the Formula Renault (BARC) championship this
weekend at the Thruxton race circuit in the United
Kingdom.
Al
Harthy who qualified for this weekends race in 13th
position among a packed grid of 32 cars set a respectable
time of 1min.15.941 , 1.5 seconds from pole sitter
Rossi (UK).
Al
Harthy who had a brilliant start made up 3 places
into the second corner and was in 10th position before
a mechanical fault with the gear selection caused
him to coast into the pits for his Hillspeed team
to try and fix the problem. “ I had an amazing
start, I tried my best at the first two corners and
passed as many cars as I could, but during the first
4 laps I realized that I had a problem with selecting
lower gears in my car, there was nothing I could do
in the car to solve the problem, however the team
was able to fix the problem once I pitted and they
sent me out and was able to finish the race unfortunately
due to the time spent in the garage that meant my
race was over, it was my first mechanical fault of
the season, its unfortunate as I was hoping for some
good results this weekend but these things happen
to everyone in motor sports”, a positive Ahmad
mentioned.
The
3.84km Thruxton race circuit is one of the fasted
circuits in the UK, and is known as a real driver
circuit, Al Harthy on Thruxton Circuit. “ This
is one of the most challenging circuits I’ve
raced at, 90% of the time we are on full throttle,
there are just two hard braking points and we take
the corners at very high speed, some corners are over
200km. Its very important to be committed to every
corner as a small hesitation could cause you to loose
your race position”.
The
Formula Renault (BARC) championship will host the
last race of the season at the Oulton Park Circuit
on the 29th of September, Al Harthy had his best finish
in 5th position at the same track and hopes to be
competitive in his final race of the championship.
