Silverstone:
Oman Racing Team driver Ahmad Said Al Harthy finished
in 10th position for both his races this weekend at
the Silverstone race circuit, allowing him to score
more championship points.
Al
Harthy’s race weekend started on Friday where
he was scheduled to take part in an extensive testing
program, but due to heavy and continuous showers organizers
at the race track cancelled the days testing due to
safety concerns.
Saturdays
20 minute qualifying session went ahead with light
showers making driving conditions very tough for all
the drivers and especially for our young Omani racer
who has not even managed to test his Formula Renault
before at the Silverstone Circuit.
Midway
through the qualifying session it soon became apparent
that Ahmad was enjoying the changing conditions and
was very competitive, qualifying in 9th and 15th position
for his two races. “ I am thrilled to find out
that I managed to qualify as high as 9th, considering
the fact that I never tested here makes me very happy
with my performance”, mentioned Ahmad when asked
about his qualifying session.
Weather
conditions improved for Sundays race and a dry race
was declared, making this even more difficult for
Al Harthy who has previously qualified at the cicuit
only in wet conditions.
Al
Harthy finished both his races in a respectable 10th
position making him the only international racers
to finish in the top ten, and was able to set a personal
best time of 58.682 seconds 0.926 seconds slower then
race winner Ollie Hancock at the 2.56 km national
circuit.
“I
am delighted with both my race results; to finish
in the top ten without having tested at Silverstone
is amazing, the guys at Hillspeed did an amazing job
with the car to make me competitive this week. I had
incredible support this weekend I have to thank everyone
who flew from Oman to come watch me race, and for
all the support in Oman as well”, an excited
Ahmad mentioned.
Oman
Racing Team driver who is supported by the Ministry
of Tourism, Ministry of Sports, BankMuscat, Oman Mobile
and Ernst & Young is scheduled to remain in the
UK for the next month to concentrate on an extensive
testing program to get him all set for Round 5 set
to take place at Snetterton on the 11th of August.
